VANCOUVER ACTORS TACKLE DIVERSITY IN EMOTIONALLY CHARGED ROUNDTABLE
If there’s one conclusion to
draw from UBCP/ACTRA’s diversity roundtable videos, it’s that no two culturally diverse actors have the same experience navigating the ’biz. Another conclusion is that, if any real change is to occur, these experiences need to be heard, and mulled over, by people in positions of power.

VANCOUVER-BASED
STUDIO EXPANDS TO OTTAWA’S BURGEONING ANIMATION INDUSTRY
From his office in what used
to be known as “Animation Alley,” Chris Wightman sees an industry drawing momentum from a world-class talent pool and state-of-the-art facilities.
HERE'S WHAT
CHINESE-CANADIAN ACTOR LUDI LIN REALLY THINKS ABOUT 'AQUAMAN'
"For the Asian actors out
there, you need to help each other out," he says. "I know it's very difficult right now, especially in Hollywood, because there's just so little out there for you. [But] the only way to get representation is to help each other out and create more."
WOMEN OF ACTION:
MEET THE STUNT PERFORMERS WHO HELP SCARLETT JOHANSSON, EVANGELINE LILLY AND MORE STARS KICK ASS
When Johansson gets punched
in the face, Heidi Moneymaker takes the hit. When Elizabeth Olsen crashes through a window, it's C.C. Ice who ends up with scratches. Hollywood's most unsung behind-the-scenes heroes star in a Hollywood Reporter photo portfolio.
THE KEY TO ACTING
SUCCESS? PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION
In order to truly move
forward, we must let go our idea of perfection and trade it for progress. We’re not here to push ourselves into an impossible, unreachable standard that keeps us perpetually failing and striving. We are here to know ourselves as pure creative energy.
THINKING ABOUT
QUITTING ACTING? HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER
Actors always ask me the
same question: What’s the key to success? And I always have the same response: perseverance. The question now becomes: How much longer should you keep going? You are the only one who can answer that question, because you’re the one who has to live with the answer.
When you audition, you are
in the world where the story takes place. Understanding the tone of the show is the number one asset that will lead to a casting director choosing you over the dozens of other actors auditioning for the same role.
