CHRISTMAS MOVIES FILMED IN BC BRING MILLIONS TO LOCAL FILM INDUSTRY
Love them or hate them, there's a reason to celebrate Christmas movies in the Lower Mainland. That's because many of the sappy, snow-filled flicks on the screen were filmed in British Columbia's backyard, bringing in millions of dollars to the local film industry and the communities used as a backdrop.
TV’S TRAVELERS WEARS ITS CANADIAN HEART ON ITS SLEEVE
“Every other show I’ve ever done we’ve flown out people from L.A.,” says Brad Wright, who was also behind the series Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis and SGU Stargate Universe, also made in Vancouver. “It’s a testament to the growing pool of talent in Canada … Vancouver’s got a real wealth of talent and so does Toronto.”

CALGARY CITY COUNCIL REJECTS FREEZE, INSTEAD PLANS TO NEARLY DOUBLE ARTS AGENCY FUNDING
City council voted 10-5 Wednesday against a motion that would have frozen the Calgary Arts Development Authority's funding and plans instead to nearly double the agency's budget next year.
Key negotiators behind the year's most game-changing deals — from Ryan Murphy's $300 million Netflix move to the $71 billion Disney-Fox acquisition — talk big-spending streamers, strategic acquisitions, record-setting talent paydays and the Obamas' new pact.
TACTICS AND STRATEGIES OF RACIALIZED ARTISTS: SOME NOTES ON HOW TO CIRCUMVENT THE ART WORLD’S TERMS OF INCLUSION
What if all of the inclusive and diverse exhibitions that have been curated, all of the critical essays that have been written, and all of the self-congratulatory diversity panels and talks that have been hosted ultimately had no effect whatsoever on the structural make-up of cultural institutions in Canada?
HOW TO MAKE YOURSELF UNFORGETTABLE TO CASTING DIRECTORS
Being the best we can be as actors is a matter of putting ourselves in the optimal position to succeed. When we can establish those concepts for every audition, callback, or meeting, we ensure that every casting director will never forget who we are and the dynamic talent we can bring to any production.
Some actors view getting a note in an audition as a sign that the director/CD didn’t like something they did or their choice was off. But I give this interpretation an emphatic “no.” It means you have their attention, that something you did intrigued them, and that they want to see more.
ANSWERING THE ‘WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON?’ QUESTION IF YOU’RE NOT
It’s important that you don’t beat yourself up because you’re not paying your way as an actor yet. As an aspiring actor, it’s totally unrealistic. Besides, you’re hardly alone. Depending on who you ask, upwards of 90 percent of actors are unemployed at any given time. All of this to say: don’t dwell on what is beyond your control.
