LOCAL FILM COMMISSIONER SUPPORTS SAANICH’S EFFORTS FOR FILM STUDIO
The regional commissioner cannot guarantee more Hollywood films will come to region if Saanich or any other
Greater Victoria municipality helps to build a film studio. But Kathleen Gilbert with the Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission said she supports Saanich mayor-elect Fred Haynes’ idea to help bring a film studio to the region.
CALIFORNIA’S FILM & TV TAX CREDIT PROGRAM BOOSTS IN-STATE PRODUCTION
According to a new
report from the California Film Commission, the third year of the state's expanded incentives program has beefed up crew employment, lured bigger-budget projects in-state and increased filming outside the 30-mile zone.
Storyhive, a
funding platform supporting independent filmmakers, has launched its first-ever Indigenous Storyteller Edition. The Telus-supported platform describes the move as the beginning of a commitment to invest in the careers of Indigenous creators and help drive social change in the filmmaker production industry in Western Canada.

B.C. FILMMAKER WINS WILDLIFE OSCAR FOR TOAD DOCUMENTARY
Filmmaker Mike McKinlay spent the last three and a half years creating Toad People, with co-creator Isabelle Groc, which is a documentary based on the conservation efforts that Chilliwack residents and grassroots conservationists have been making in order to preserve western toad populations.
