INDUSTRY NEWS
SHADING TV, FILM DRAMA WITH GREEN CONTENT CAN DRIVE SUSTAINABILITY
As the industry grows, many are questioning its impact on the environment, advocating for the use of electric power instead of diesel generators to
fuel on-location shoots, finding alternatives to bottled water to keep crews hydrated, donating leftover craft services food to the poor and even recycling the materials used to build sets.
CBS Television Studios is expanding in Canada as it
gets set to open a 260,000-square-foot studio with six soundstages in Toronto in mid-2019, it was announced Wednesday. CBS is also hedging its bets by launching its own studio as Toronto faces a long-standing shortage of quality studio space for Hollywood producers.
BIG BUZZ ‘ACCIDENTALLY’ BUILDS AROUND FINDING BIG COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY
A picture of a prop for Kat Jayme’s film, a documentary about a player a city has mostly forgotten, was one of the most viral social media trends in the local Twittersphere this summer. And best thing is, the prop — a bunch of fake

of artists, there are few opportunities for them to publicly display their art.
CANADA'S FIRST MUSLIM THEATRE COMPANY LAUNCHES IN MONTREAL
The company is based in Montreal and has a mandate to share diverse narratives from within Muslim communities. There are roughly 15 people involved in the first production, of which some, but not all, are Muslim. The hope is that the performance
will contribute to more constructive conversations about Muslim identity in Quebec.
TALENT AGENT GIVES TIPS FOR YOUNG ACTORS AND THEIR PARENTS
Jayson Marshall, a talent agent based in southern Alberta, encourages families to think about acting as an option for precocious, fun-loving kids who thrived in the school play. But be warned: breaking into the film and TV industry means a lot of work, including for talent agents trying
to spot the next big kid star.
I was running a commercial audition last week and was blown away by the number of actors who apologized in the room for doing unprepared work. What puzzled me was why they hadn’t prepared better—specifically in the waiting room—and why they felt the need to apologize once they were in the room.
WHY A PERFECT AUDITION DOESN’T MEAN YOU’LL NAIL THE PART
The industry is finally coming around to the importance of casting in the process of making TV, but Peter Golden—along with his casting peers—will continue to prove why
it’s an art form, not just a job.
