VANCOUVER QUEER FILM FESTIVAL'S VISIBILITY HAS GROWN ALONG WITH LGBT COMMUNITY On May 15, Vancouver city council
unanimously voted in favour of a staff report recommending that 2018 be designated as the Year of the Queer. It's to honour 15 LGBT organizations that are celebrating significant anniversaries, including the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. CENTRE Calgary's $28-million film studio wasn't quite as busy in 2017 as was expected when the facility opened two years ago. Data released by Calgary Economic Development (CED) shows that there was $178 million in film and TV production in Calgary last year. That's up from $165.5 million the previous year.
