There are at least 8 movies scheduled for filming in and around Vancouver this month including 4 feature films and 4 TV movies. Stars you can expect to see around town include Anna Kendrick, Candace Cameron Bure, Chris Hemsworth, Jeff Bridges and Katherine Langford.

ANOTHER RECORD BREAKING YEAR PROVES SURREY IS A BIG PART OF 'HOLLYWOOD NORTH'
When Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson gushed about Surrey in an Instagram video he posted for his millions of followers, it became official — the biggest bigwigs in Hollywood consider the city to be part of 'Hollywood North.'

GILLIAN ANDERSON, DAVID DUCHOVNY AND CHRIS CARTER KEEP SEEKING THE TRUTH THAT'S 'OUT THERE' AS 'THE X-FILES' RETURNS
After a 14-year hiatus, the beloved sci fi drama returned in 2016 for a quick-hit miniseries. B.C. performers in film, television and new media have voted overwhelming to ratify a new contract that includes what their union is calling “precedent setting” protections against sexual harassment.

FILM STUDIO IN NORTH OKANAGAN CLOSING DUE TO LACK OF DEMAND
A first-of-its-kind film studio venture in Vernon has failed to get off its feet. Okanagan Studios opened in 2016, boasting 50,000 square feet of specialized space built for making movies. But the roughly four acre property on Kosmina Road in Vernon now has a for sale sign on it. According to the listing, the asking price is $5.75 million.

Saskatchewan’s film employment tax credit began in 1998 — the same year the Alberta government backpedalled its disincentive. That province’s film industry had shrunk from $160 million to $12 million in two years.
