‘THE ROCK’ DWAYNE JOHNSON REVEALS VANCOUVER LED TO CAREER-CHANGING TWIST
Vancouver holds fond memories for superstar actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, including a life-changing career turn. From a high-rise balcony, The Rock told his Instagram followers this week about his first visit to Vancouver when he was 22.

WHY VANCOUVER’S QUEER FILM FESTIVAL IS SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON QUEER FILMMAKERS OF COLOUR
Now in its 29th year, the Vancouver Queer Film Festival has been committed to reflecting a variety of queer lives on screen since its inception. This year’s focus on The Experiential Lens: Filmmakers of Colour Spotlight, is no exception.

BC FILM IS LOOKING REAL GOOD IN FIRST VIFF 2017 PROGRAMMING ANNOUNCEMENT
The Vancouver International Film Festival revealed 12 titles in its B.C.-based Sea to Sky stream -- the first programming announcement for this year’s festival. It’s pretty mouthwatering, with a nice mix of new and established talent, some major stars, much timeliness in subject matter, and an admirable bent towards Indigenous issues and representation.

HUMBLE HOLLYWOOD BIGWIG RAISING FUNDS FOR VICTIM OF B.C. WILDFIRES
The sight of a couple on TV, talking about the loss of their home because of a wildfire burning in B.C.’s interior, really caught Larry Sugar. So, Sugar decided to set up a table outside Urban Fare in Yaletown this past weekend to collect donations.

GEORGIA COULD BE THE NEW HOLLYWOOD FOR YOUNG ACTING TALENT
The reason is largely economic. Casting locally is cheaper for producers because it saves on travel, lodging and per diem costs. Those savings are effectively doubled when the actor in question is underage, because the law requires they be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

WHAT’S SO HARD ABOUT CASTING NATIVE AMERICAN ACTORS IN NATIVE AMERICAN ROLES?
Taylor Sheridan, writer-director of the new film “Wind River,” which takes place on a Wyoming reservation, told his casting team: Hire Native American actors. When vetting is a challenge even for tribes, how can casting directors do it?

HOW TO SHOW CASTING YOU’RE SET-READY
At its best and highest form, an audition is you showing the people in the room that you are ready and able to do the job; that you have the chops at that very moment to walk onto the set and deliver as a multifaceted, creative, and flexible actor as well as a solid, strong, and dependable professional.
So here are three of the things that need to happen if you’re going to be seen as set-ready.

IF YOU WANT AN ACTING CAREER, ANSWER THIS ONE QUESTION
There is no book of tips the working actors are keeping away from everyone else, but there is a difference in the way those actors approach the business.

THE ONE TRAP ACTORS FALL INTO AS THEY AGE
The number one trap a lot of actors can fall into as they age comes down to a loss of vulnerability, spontaneity, flexibility, and an absence of a childlike willingness to play pretend with full abandon and freedom. This is because as we all get older, we tend to fall into habits and do things by rote rather than by discovery and accident, a way to seek security and certainty.
