Spring has officially sprung in Vancouver – fresh blooms are popping up all over the city, and evidently a few stars may be too. Here are 9 TV shows and
movies filming in and around Vancouver this May.
MORE THAN A HASHTAG: MAKING DIVERSE, INCLUSIVE THEATRE THE NORM
Canada is no stranger to acclaimed plays told from diverse perspectives, but a new wave of theatre artists is pushing past existing boundaries to make inclusive storytelling the new normal.
COBIE SMULDERS HAPPY WITH HER
MOVE FROM TV TO THE BROADWAY STAGE
When Cobie Smulders moved to Manhattan three years ago, she had a darn good reason . . . and a goal. Her goal: To make it to Broadway. Now she can cross that off her bucket list, having made her Broadway debut last month in Noël Coward’s Present Laughter.
TONY NOMINATIONS: NO JUICY ROLES FOR ACTORS OVER A CERTAIN AGE? TRY BROADWAY
The common gripe that screen work gets thinner as actors — women especially — hit middle-age doesn't appear to apply to theater, if this year's nominated performers in their 60s and 70s are any indication.
FAKING IT: HOW DO ACTORS ACTUALLY LEARN TO SPEAK WITH ACCENTS?
The best movie accents are the ones you don't even really notice. It's easy to pinpoint an accent as terrible, but what are the specific elements that make an accent good or bad? And how do actors prepare for the challenge?
WHY HOLLYWOOD’S MOST THRILLING SCENES ARE NOW ORCHESTRATED THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY
The visual effects industry, and the “movie magic” blockbuster films spend huge shares of their budgets on, are being lured away from California — and into two of the most expensive cities in the world.
THINK LIKE A CASTING DIRECTOR WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR ACTOR
RÉSUMÉ
Actors often write résumés to show themselves off in what they think is their best light: keeping busy, varied projects, a jack-of-all-trades approach to their skills. But when casting a project, a CD wants to see if you’ll fit in the jigsaw puzzle. They’re looking for a résumé that says, “I can do THIS EXACT job.”
To resolve the block, you have to gain a new understanding of the kind of confidence that’s actually required. It’s the kind that most
actors you admire and respect have—one that’s characterized by a healthy dose of humility.

The Festival is packed with more than 80 films, including Manifesto, featuring actress Cate Blanchett.
