STEPHEN HUNT: HOW CANADA IS RESPONDING TO A DEARTH OF ARTS CRITICISM
I was a theatre critic at a mid-market daily paper, the Calgary Herald, for a decade,

Since my layoff, theatre critics in Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver have all lost their jobs, leaving the critical landscape of the English-Canadian performing arts scene outside Toronto an uncertain, somewhat random sampling of tweeters, podcasters, bloggers and academic pundits.
The Screen Actors Guild (aka: “SAG”) rate for first-time actors on a new tv series is $933/Day or $3,239/Week. And, remember these are the minimums… and I think you recall those 6 darlings from “FRIENDS” who got $1,000,000/Episode. OK… So how does this $1,000,000 per Episode happen?
‘BIG BANG THEORY’ LEADS TAKING
PAY CUTS SO FEMALE CO-STARS CAN GET RAISES
Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar and Simon Helberg ― who have all been on the show since Season 1’s premiere in 2007 ― reportedly agreed to take $100,000 pay cuts from their $1 million per episode salaries for upcoming Seasons 11 and 12 to increase the salaries of Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch.
I get a lot of satisfaction from crossing stage directions out of my script. But it’s not just any stage direction I’m crossing out; it’s a very specific one. I take my marker and go searching for the ever-dreaded and seemingly inevitable stage direction SHE CRIES. I grow tired of reading scripts that suggest all women react to conflict or turmoil in the same way.
Headshot sessions can be expensive and, for some actors, can be a source of stress. It’s important that you go into your session prepared so that you come out with as many viable proofs as possible. You want options. Lucky for you, there are specific things that you can do on the day that will guarantee you more success.
You worked hard on the audition, got the callback, and rocked the producer session. You’ve booked the job and are on set tomorrow. Here’s how you can make sure you’re ready. You’d be surprised by how many actors come to set unprepared by not doing these five simples things.
