UBC, you’ve produced a star! And we’re taking full credit for his success. Ludi Lin, a UBC theatre program alumnus, is starring in the new Power Rangers movie set to release in March 2017.
METRO VANCOUVER MOVES TO INCREASE FUNDING FOR ARTS AND CULTURE IN LOWER
MAINLAND
There’s likely more money coming for arts and cultural organizations in the Lower Mainland. The Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) is considering a 50 percent increase in its annual budget for grants to groups that promote arts and culture.
SAF-AFTRA GOES ON STRIKE AGAINST VIDEOGAME COMPANIES
The strike began at 12:01 a.m. PDT Friday. Negotiators for the performers union held three days of talks this week, bringing in a federal mediator, but could not reach a deal as SAG-AFTRA rejected the companies’ final offer. No new negotiations have been scheduled.
CITY OF VANCOUVER APPROVES $550,000 SUBSIDY FOR COMMUNITY USE OF CIVIC THEATRE SPACES
Here’s good news for community groups that support arts, culture, diversity, local food, and wellness.
The City of Vancouver has approved a subsidy of $550,000 to help these organizations rent
spaces at local civic theatres for their events. The funding will be spread over three years, from 2017 to 2019.

made-in-Alberta Aboriginal fantasy feature that has been making the rounds at film festivals around the world will begin its run in Canadian theatres this week.

city’s booming film production, animation and digital effects industry.
Benita Ha is a Canadian actress who’s appeared in
numerous movies and television shows, including X-Men: The Last Stand. She’s also lent her voice to a number of video games, and is also a nurse! I recently had the pleasure of interviewing this talented lady.

Values such as diversity have always played a large role in why people buy subscriptions, of course.
Subscribing, a tradition whose decline has made theatres more financially fragile and less likely to take risks, is about supporting a company through thick and thin due an over-arching vision.
