AN OFFICIAL NOD TO BC FILM PRODUCTION
EFFORTS While proclaiming Sept. 21 as Screen in B.C. Day, Richard T. Lee, MLA for Burnaby North, praised Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission and Front Street Pictures “for your dedication to B.C.’s creative industries.” He made the proclamation after visiting the set of Rose Parade, the Hallmark Channel movie starring Rachel Boston and Marc Bendavid that is filming here. http://www.timescolonist.com/an-official-nod-to-b-c-film-production-efforts-1.2350045

TATIANA MASLANY WINS EMMY FOR BEST LEAD ACTRESS IN A DRAMA An admittedly shocked Tatiana Maslany took home the Emmy for best lead actress in a drama on Sunday for her multiple roles in the sci-fi series "Orphan Black." "I should have had this written down," said the 30-year-old Regina native, who plays several clones with different personalities and accents on the show, after receiving her trophy from fellow Canadian Kiefer Sutherland. http://www.metronews.ca/news/canada/2016/09/18/newsalert-canadian-tatiana-maslany-wins-emmy-for-best-lead-actress-in-a-drama.html
TATIANA MISLAY IS EXHIBIT A IN THE CASE AGAINST CRTC’S NEW CONTENT RULES Say you replaced the remarkable Maslany with an American actress, would Orphan Black still be a Canadian show? Say you replaced both her and her co-star, Jordan Gavaris, another Canadian actor? What about if you hired Hollywood directors and writers? At what point, if all the members of the artistic team are foreign, can we still
consider a show shot in Toronto by a Canadian crew to be Canadian? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/television/tatiana-maslany-is-exhibit-a-in-the-case-against-the-crtcs-content-rules/article32021138/
HERE COMES VIFF+ In many ways, the 35th Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) is strikingly different from its previous editions. It’s got a brand new logo featuring bold and boxy letters that would look great emblazoned on the chest of any cinema-championing superhero. https://www.biv.com/article/2016/9/here-comes-viff/
HOW TO TREAT AUDITIONS LIKE BUSINESS MEETINGS Actors may not often look at it this way, but the auditioning process is primarily a job interview. It’s a professional meeting where you’re being considered for a position. It’s not meant to be a
place to practice getting good. The casting office is where you show that you’re already good. Don’t train on hiring ground! http://www.backstage.com/advice-for-actors/backstage-experts/how-treat-auditions-business-meetings/
HOW TO BE A VIDEO GAME VOICEOVER ARTIST This month I caught up with busy video game and voiceover actor Darin De Paul. Darin and I met in May 2015,
when I cast him as a voice in the Amazon pilot “The Numberlys,” and since then his voiceover career has exploded. Here are some tips for how he climbed the ladder to success. http://www.backstage.com/advice-for-actors/backstage-experts/how-be-video-game-voiceover-artist/
