VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL'S NEW VIFF HUB TAKES INDUSTRY INTO THE FUTURE
The Hub is a rebooted version of VIFF Industry that will provide, as Jacqueline Dupuis explained at a September 7 press conference at Vancity Theatre, "for experiences that go beyond
film".
FILM INDUSTRY SLOWS DOWN AFTER RECORD-BREAKING YEAR
According to
Kathleen Gilbert, commissioner of the Vancouver Island South Film and Media Commission, the region will likely host 10 to 12 visiting productions, and three to four local productions by the end of the year.
FILMMAKER STELLA MEGHIE COULD BE A SIGN OF A BETTER HOLLYWOOD TO COME
Meghie could also be a harbinger of a better Hollywood to come: After all, it is not every day that there’s a female voice as in demand as Meghie’s - and the fact that she is a black and Canadian female voice is doubly heartening.

VANCOUVER FRINGE FESTIVAL

Cultivating artists and audiences to create an open and vibrant independent theatre community. The Fringe strives to break down traditional boundaries and encourage open dialogue between audiences and artists by presenting live un-juried, uncensored theatre in an accessible and informal environment. All artists receive 100% of regular box office revenues generated during the Festival.
Stories illustrate our universally shared experiences. The Cold Reading Series (CRS) is committed to supporting and developing the talents of Vancouver’s story tellers – writers, actors, and musicians alike – by providing a forum where they can present their craft to a live audience and get instant feedback.
The
September speaker is Louisa Phung, Assistant Director. Louisa Phung has been a member of the Director's Guild of Canada as an Assistant Director for over 10 years, having worked on a variety of shows, from low budget independent short films to 100 million dollar feature films. Louisa will be discussing what each level of Assistant Director does, how they interact with every department, and what they do to make your film production smooth sailing.
The Celluloid
Social Club (CSC) is a monthly, independent short film screening and networking event held at the ANZA Club in Vancouver, BC, running since November 1997. Each film is followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers with a networking party after the screenings.
