CALGARY OPENS $28 MILLION FILM CENTRE TO ATTRACT MORE PRODUCTIONS
Vancouver may be one of the top filming centres in North America, but Calgary is upping its game to provide
stronger competition. That became clear with the opening of the Calgary Film Centre on May 19.
Kate Becker, who chairs Seattle's Office of Film and Music, notes that B.C. is no longer the main competition for her office:
"We are not trying to compete with Vancouver. We're trying to compete with Oregon."
For some time now, many young aspiring actors in the movie industry have continued to lament the pain and anguish they go through as a result of poor
remuneration.
There are more great shows in production now than ever before — but it’s never been harder to make one. off. This is Peak TV.
No matter how much you prepare and train for it, navigating a new career as an actor is going to take you by surprise. Suffice it to say, your life will be stressful and hectic enough as you start out. Do yourself a favor and utilize your resources.
The learning curve when
making the transition from film and television can be steep. The two are vastly different mediums and have separate technical issues and challenges. However there are two very basic and yet powerful tools that can make a tremendous difference in your film and television work.
If I were given the opportunity, I think I would tell myself to be bold, be daring, and, essentially, be more confident. At the risk of sounding super cheesy and terribly clichéd, I’m not going to say “be yourself,” because that’s so boring and there is so much more to it than that. But what I do know is people admire singularity and confidence.
