LIONSGATE MOVES FILMING FROM NORTH CAROLINA TO VANCOUVER OVER ANTI-LGBT LAWS
Phil Klapwyk, a spokesman for the film union IATSE Local 891, said he’s not surprised the company chose B.C. “One of the reasons producers choose to work in British Columbia is because of our commitment to an inclusive and diverse work environment.”

Season Two of Emergency Room once again takes the viewer deep in the bowels of the VGH ER, where often complex, life-threatening and quite graphic interventions take place — from simple cuts and bruises to extensive heart procedures.

NEIL PATRICK HARRIS IN VANCOUVER TO FILM NETFLIX'S 'A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS'
Production for the 13-episode series at South Vancouver’s new Ironwood Studios began on Monday and is scheduled to continue until August 12. The series is being produced by Paramount Pictures as a Netflix Original Series.

Yes, cinephiles, it's a day to rejoice. Cinematheque managing director Kate Ladyshewsky, who oversaw the renovations, informed the Georgia Straight that their outdated sound system and worn-out seats (over 20 years old) have been replaced.

North Carolina's business reputation continues to suffer setbacks following controversy over House Bill 2, but in Western North Carolina, the film "Dirty Dancing" must go on.

HOLLYWOOD IS RUNNING OUT OF TOMBSTONES
An explosion in American television production is threatening to overwhelm filming facilities from California to Canada to Georgia. Vancouver ran out of studio space, forcing casts to work in abandoned buildings, such as the former nut-processing factory where this season’s Wayward Pines on Fox is being filmed.

TWO-THIRDS OF HOLLYWOOD STUNTWOMEN 'BULLIED OR SEXUALLY HARASSED'
The survey was carried out independently by Julie Johnson, author of the biography The Stuntwoman and one of the first women stunt coordinators, whose work included the 1970s TV series Charlie’s Angels. In her latest survey, two-thirds of respondents told Johnson they saw no evidence of drug or alcohol abuse in the industry in 2016, though figures on assault and sexual harassment have changed little in the intervening decades.

The 15th Annual DOXA Festival features 85 films and 78 screenings, including one World Premiere and 21 Canadian Premieres. Some featured screenings include Aim for the Roses (featuring some local actors) and Pistol Shrimps (featuring  Aubrey Plaza of Parks and Recreation). An expanded Industry program rounds out the festival with a focus on distributors, politics in film, and documentary editing.
