DEADPOOL FILM PRODUCTION INJECTS OVER $40 MILLION INTO BC ECONOMY
While Vancouverites may be pleased to see Deadpool stars hometown star Ryan Reynolds, the production also boosted the British Columbian economy with millions of dollars worth of expenditures.
David McIntosh, Steve Smith, Mike Branham and Mike Kirilenko of Aircover Inflatables are being honoured with a Scientific and Technical award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their unique movie set invention – a giant air wall. The four innovators have also been lauded as ‘B.C. Job Makers’ by the
province.
LEADERSHIP SHUFFLE PORTENDS BIGGER CREATIVE BC ROLE
In addition to a new CEO and chairman, Creative BC’s No. 3 position was also shuffled recently as Force Four Entertainment president Rob Bromley took on its vice-chairman role last month. Newcomers to the board include Watchdog Management general manager Sarah Fenton and Tom Gierasimczuk,
publisher and general manager of Vancouver Magazine and Western Living.
I’M A BLACK ACTOR. HERE’S HOW INEQUALITY WORKS WHEN YOU’RE NOT FAMOUS
I have been a working actor in the Chicagoland area for seven
years now. The one common denominator, in all this time, is that I am a black man constantly having to conform my blackness to what white people, mainly men, on the other side of the table believe to be true.
Conflict always emerges, and how you work through it is the difference between a month-long fling based on hot sex and a deep love—the coming together of two souls—that stands the test
of time. The same is true of your acting.
Actors look at auditioning as the artistic stepchild to “real” acting, the “necessary evil” they have to endure before they are allowed to act. It’s
somehow beneath them. This has always been untrue, and never more so than today.
