WOMEN IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT THE WHISTLER FILM FESTIVAL
Mentorship program works to narrow gender gap that persists in film industry

2015 A BUSY YEAR FOR FILM IN REGION
This has been a blockbuster year of sorts for film and TV production in the TNRD. “We’ve had one of our busiest years ever in terms of people coming here,” said Vicci Weller, film commissioner. “We had 17 groups of filmmakers visit for a total of 45 days and we had probably the most productions.”

MASSIVE HIRING REBOUND SPELLS GOOD NEWS FOR FILM INDUSTRY WORKERS
USA job figures showed that employers added over 271,000 jobs in October with states such as Colorado seeing unemployment rates falling below 4.5%. Earlier this year the MPAA released figures showing employment in the film and entertainment industry was on the rise.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO, ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ INARRITU DISCUSS CHALLENGES OF FILMING THE REVENANT
After the credits rolled and the audience stood up to cheer, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was joined on the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre stage at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Poulter and other members of his filmmaking team, who braved a brutal British Columbia winter to shoot the film this past year.

SELLING STARDOM: A TALENT AGENT AND A TRAIL OF UNHAPPY CLIENTS
The top Hollywood talent agents have artwork by Annie Leibovitz and Ed Ruscha on their walls, armies of sharp young assistants at their beck and call, and Porsches gleaming in their parking garages. Then there's Lynn Venturella.

1 ATTITUDE THAT CAN COST YOU A JOB
Actors are their own worst enemies. They always find the negative in every positive. And that’s a lousy way to live. I would also argue that manner of thinking doesn’t serve you as an artist or as a person.

HOW ACTORS SHOULD LOOK AT THEATER PERFORMANCES
Actors need to respect the tradition of performing for a live audience. Acting onstage is a privilege, not a right. Embrace that perspective and you will discover the beauty of what you do.
