SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS: BIRDMAN, DOWNTON ABBEY WIN CAST AWARDS
The backstage farce Birdman topped the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning best ensemble cast, even though star Michael Keaton was upset by Eddie Redmayne in the most outstanding actor category.

LOW DOLLAR BODES WELL FOR B.C.’S FILM, TELEVISION INDUSTRY
Canada’s low dollar vis-à-vis the U.S. greenback should give B.C.’s film and television industry a boost, says Peter Leitch, chairman of the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of B.C.
“It’s obviously good news for us because the bulk of the work we do comes from Los Angeles."

FILM STUDIO GETTING SET UP IN DOWNTOWN MAPLE RIDGE
The Ridge Studios is setting up in the building on 224th Street, creating a film studio with portable sets to make it easy and convenient for film makers to capture certain scenes.

CANADA COUNCIL ANNOUNCES OVERHAUL OF GRANTING STRUCTURE
While details are still in development and will be announced later this year, the general plan includes a massive consolidation, from 142 current grant programs (governed by 108 policies), to fewer than 10 large programs.

An introduction to working with Matthew and exploring his philosophy and practice.  Freeing, eye-opening, and inspiring, the Foundry Intensive is the foundation of The Foundry. Through intensive focus exercises developed by Matthew Harrison, the actor is drawn out, into what the Foundry calls being ‘vectors-out’, the natural place where the performer can live truthfully in the scene.  Actors receive scenes and scene partners in advance, rehearse and fully prepare scenes, and apply the work to focal exercises, preparatory exploration, and scene presentation.
