For all the hue and cry over the impending death of B.C.'s film industry this time last year, 2013 turned out to be one of the busiest for film shoots in recent record on the North Shore.

FILM CREWS GRACING THE PENINSULA
"Greater Victoria and the Saanich Peninsula are incredibly beautiful and the natural landscape of the Island is incredibly visually appealing. We chose Vancouver Island because of the visual appeal," said Gracepoint's Executive Producer, Carolyn Bernstein. Bernstein went on to say choosing the locations on the Peninsula like the Sidney waterfront were chosen based on where the show is set.

INDUSTRIAL LIGHT AND MAGIC OPENS PERMANENT STUDIO IN VANCOUVER
Lucasfilm's Industrial Light and Magic officially opened its 30,000-square foot studio in Gastown on March 17. Their new premises had been vacated by Pixar Canada, which launched in April 2010 but closed in October 2013.

VANCOUVER MAN BOWS OUT OF LATEST LAWSUIT AGAINST 'AVATAR' COPYRIGHT ALLEGATIONS
The latest claim came from a Vancouver man named Emil Malak, who said that Avatar bore a striking resemblance to his 1998 screenplay, Terra Incognita, about a community of indigenous people who were protecting their home planet from militaristic human intruders who want to mine precious minerals.
