B.C. POLITICAL PARTIES STAKE OUT POSITIONS ON ARTS AND CULTURE
Arts and culture has not been a major focus in the provincial election campaign, with much debate centered on heated issues like oil pipelines, leadership, and balanced budgets. But it is a policy area where voters are being offered a choice between the main political parties, based on what is found in-and missing from-the official platforms.

DOES HAVING AN ACCENT LIMIT ACTING OPPORTUNITIES?
As a rule, the more versatile an actor is, the more opportunities they receive. A fruit vendor that only sells bananas would most likely increase his income if he sold other fruits as well. You certainly can get work with an accent, but it will limit the jobs you can get.

COMEDIANS, ATHLETES AND PERFORMERS DIE YOUNGER
One common misconception is that humor leads to a longer life, but in fact, there are no studies supporting this notion. In contrast, the few studies that do exist show that people who are considered to be funny actually suffer more health problems and die at a younger age.

'ALWAYS BE READY,' ALAN DOYLE TELLS BUSINESS AUDIENCE
Musician and actor Alan Doyle had a simple message for St. John's Board of Trade members at their monthly luncheon Friday: always be ready. "I learned the whole concept of readiness from a few people, like Russell Crowe," said Doyle. "The best actors in the world are the ones that are most prepared and I think that's true for most athletes and businesses."
