Hi, . I hope you've enjoyed the first weekend of Vancouver sun and warmth in a very long time.
First, congrats to everyone on securing 30,000 signature for the Save BC Film campaign. Having incentives for productions to want to work in BC is one piece of the puzzle. Also, glad to hear that Vancouver's Cory Monteith (Glee) has checked into rehab for substance abuse. Gotta know when to ask for help.
But what I really want to focus on today is two other things. Did you hear that a Casting Director is auctioning off a bunch of audition tapes of some of the top actors in Hollywood? These tapes are from productions over the past 30 years, including for films like Backdraft, Jurassic Park, The Outsiders.
Sure, as a performer it's super interesting to see some of these auditions but I also wonder where things stand legally. I know the actor doesn't own the rights, but I question whether it's the Casting Director or the production who own the audition tapes. I guess it's just depends on the nature of the contract between the CD and the production, especially back then.
I'm sure it'll make some good cash, but how would you feel if your auditions were sold?
On a different note, Shimon Photo did a fun photo shoot in an effort to try and capture a glimpse of what it can be like for actors in the audition room. Below is the first of three images. Stay tuned to our Facebook Page later this week as we unveil to you two more within the series.
Oh! And we're also going to announce an exciting event that will be coming up in just over a month. If you can't wait for next week's newsletter to find out, then check Facebook near the end of this week.
Have an amazing week!

CONTINUUM BUNKERS DOWN IN VANCOUVER The CBC building on Hamilton Street is already better protected than the Pentagon. But security has been intensified in the past few weeks since Continuum moved into the bunkerlike complex, providing the wildly successful Showcase series with a base of operations and an appropriately sterile location for its second season, now in production. http://www.straight.com/movies/366056/continuum-bunkers-down-vancouver HOLLYWOOD NORTH: FORMER SOAP STAR DYLAN BRUCE TAKES ON SCI-FI
Orphan Black, the new sci-fi series on Space, features a mind-bending premise with Canadian It Girl Tatiana Maslany (Picture Day) playing multiple clones of the same character - but while some actors might find this concept complicated, improbable plot twists and twins are nothing new to Vancouver-born actor Dylan Bruce, who kicked off his career on the soap opera As the World Turns. http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/Hollywood+North+Former+soap+star+Dylan+Bruce+takes+Orphan/8165507/story.html THANDIE NEWTON GOES ROGUE IN NEW TV DRAMA
Ideas come in the most unexpected places. For the longest time, U.K. writer Matthew Parkhill was mulling over the idea for a new crime drama called Rogue, about a morally conflicted undercover police officer who loses her child and worries that she may be to blame. He originally chose his native London as the setting, but the idea coalesced while he was visiting Vancouver. As luck would have it, Rogue turned out to be filmed in Vancouver, anyway. http://www.canada.com/entertainment/Thandie+Newton+goes+Rogue+drama/8165029/story.html SYFY RENEWS 'CONTINUUM' FOR SECOND SEASON The channel ordered another 13 episodes of the Canadian time-traveling series about a female cop from the future who is trapped in present-day Vancouver.

PRODUCERS HIT WEB WITH MOTIVE'S DARK CORNER AND THE TRUE HEROINES
The video assault on the web continues by both big players and small, as the conventional TV networks and plucky upstarts go looking for online audiences. The Vancouver-produced TV crimes series Motive filmed eight episodes of a companion web series The Dark Corner. Arriving online a day earlier was another Vancouver production, The True Heroines. Each production has its own reasons for going online. http://blogs.theprovince.com/2013/03/27/b-c-producers-hit-web-with-motives-dark-corner-and-the-true-heroines/ THINGS I WISH I HAD BEEN TOLD IN THEATRE SCHOOL
Theatre school was great. It is great. But it can omit some of the more fundamental and important career lessons. School is, after all, a bubble. It's not a natural professional environment. So, here's a list of some things I wish somebody had told me in theatre school. Some of these lessons, I had to learn the hard way. Others simply would have saved me a bit of time. http://callamrodya.com/2013/03/17/things-i-wish-i-had-been-told-in-theatre-school/ VFX COMPANY IMAGE ENGINE OPENS NEW VANCOUVER FACILITY
With the budgets on epic studio movies increasingly going to animation and visual effects, Vancouver-based Image Engine is opening a new rotoscoping and camera track production facility. But the challenge is keeping local graduates from leaving Vancouver to chase big name Hollywood movies produced in the U.S., the U.K., New Zealand and Australia to secure work experience and buff up their resume. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/image-engine-vancouver-facility-306419
