VANCOUVER ACTOR INSPIRED BY SPONGEBOB STAYS BRIGHT DESPITE MOODY ROLES
Contrary to his dark roles on screen, Vancouver actor Richard Harmon is a big SpongeBob SquarePants fan. The 21-year-old has made a steady climb in profile, playing characters who are variously moody, hostile and anti-social, mostly on TV but also on the big screen. "I never really got the normal kid roles," says Harmon, who has been acting since he was 10, most recently as a brooding farm boy who joins a group of eco-terrorists in the Canadian sci-fi series Continuum.

VANCOUVER ACTRESS GOES FROM BOMB GIRL TO BRIDAL CANDIDATE
The Bomb Girls are spending their summer vacation at a wedding party in Vancouver. Back in May, three friends in their 30s - Ali Liebert, actor Nicholas Carella and director Michelle Ouellet - started discussing the idea of making a movie about a group of friends at a reunion coping with the challenges of life in their mid-30s. Last weekend, barely six weeks later, Ouellet was calling "wrap" on the set of Afterparty, an improvised feature about the aftershocks of a wedding.

Young Canadian star Taylor Kitsch and accomplished Irish actor Brendan Gleeson will take the leads in The Grand Seduction, the upcoming English-language remake of the Quebec hit. Based on the 2003 film La Grande Séduction (also called Seducing Dr. Lewis) penned by Ken Scott and directed by Jean-François Pouliot, the comedy follows a big-city physician who turns up in a harbour town that's in desperate need of a doctor.

ZOE KAZAN: A BLUE BLOOD NAME ONLY
Zoe Kazan admits that her last name offers her advantages in the entertainment business. After all, her grandfather Elia was a legendary theatre and film director (A Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront). Her father Nicholas is a renowned screenwriter (Reversal of Fortune), as is her mother, Robin Swicord (Little Women). But as Zoe demonstrates in her new film, Ruby Sparks - she wrote the script and plays the title character - identity can be a mutable thing.

MOVIE TICKET PRICES REACH ALL-TIME HIGH IN Q2 OF 2012
The average ticket cost rose to $8.12 during the second quarter of 2012, due in part to the big movie releases of the summer. The average price to see a movie in the U.S. rose slightly in the first half of 2012 to an all-time high. But the increase was not as steep as in most of the past 17 years, in part because of a slowdown in the number of premium-priced 3D tickets.
