PLAYHOUSE PROPS COLLECTION TO SEE THE LIGHT AGAIN
The extensive collection of props belonging to the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company, which have been locked away since the company ceased operations earlier this year, will once again see the light of day on local stages. The Renegade Arts Society is very pleased to announce that it has been granted custodianship of the large and invaluable collection that had been amassed over the Playhouse's 49 years and includes props from literally thousands of plays and musicals.

GOVERNMENT FUNDING FOR B.C. ARTS COUNCIL HOLDS STEADY AT $16.8 MILLION
The B.C. government is maintaining the level of annual funding for the B.C. Arts Council, a provincial agency that provides grant money to artists and cultural groups. The B.C. Arts Council will receive $16.8 million for the 2012-2013 fiscal year, the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development announced August 13. The same amount of provincial funding was provided to the agency for the previous year.

BEN AYRES GOES BICOASTAL FOR BC INDIE HORROR AND TORONTO TV DOCTOR
Actor Benjamin Ayres has been based in Toronto of late, but came back to Vancouver for a couple of days this month to see the finished version of Death Do Us Part, a low-budget horror movie he made with some Vancouver friends last October.

HOW SONY'S VANCOUVER STUDIOS GIVE CANADIAN ANIMATORS HOME FIELD ADANTAGE
Sony Pictures Imageworks' upcoming film Hotel Transylvania may sound like a surprising entry in the CanCon canon at first, the bulk of its 3D animation was actually done at SPI's Vancouver offices. "I think it's a really special process to be part of, as an animator," says Kevin Webb, one of the animation leads at SPI's B.C. office.

GUILDS APPLAUD AS CALIFORNIA TAX CREDIT EXTENSION CLEARS ASSEMBLY
The state Assembly on Thursday approved a two-year extension for California's tax credit production incentive program on a 70-4 vote. The legislation, which provides $100 million in annual tax credits for productions, now moves on to the state Senate and likely will be taken up in committee next week.
