'FRINGE' CO-SHOWRUNNER JEFF PINKNER EXITS FOR FINAL SEASON

FILM PRODUCTION COMPANY CONSIDERS MOVE TO BC
Award-winning film production firm Partners In Motion is spending the summer glumly wondering where it should move in order to stay in business. A move out of Regina has been forced on it - and other production firms - by the provincial government's surprise decision to end the 15-year-old refundable film employment tax credit.http://www.thestarphoenix.com/entertainment/movie-guide/Axed+credit+film+production+firm+mulling+move/6792539/story.html
HOW CANADIAN TV CAN START THINKING REALLY BIG
Canada isn't playing television's game of thrones. That's partly because it doesn't have the big audiences and big money to compete; but also, more sadly yet more reversibly, because its risk-averse television broadcasters are failing to back talent in a culture that too quickly turns to airing U.S. television rather than demanding better from its own.http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/television/how-canadian-tv-can-start-thinking-really-big/article4267928/
IDEA THEFT: PROTECTING ALL SIDES
With the increase in litigation over so-called "idea theft," many aspiring writers are understandably concerned about protecting their work. They often ask whether you can "copyright an idea." The short answer is no. The long answer is that there are ways to protect creative work.http://www.thewrap.com/movies/blog-post/idea-theft-protecting-all-sides-44746
COLIN TRVORROW SAYS HOLLYWOOD'S SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED
Young directors are understandably tempted by the glitter and fame the studios seem to offer, so when the big boys start buzzing, people like Colin Trevorrow are happy to take the call - and, usually, the deal.

It is encouraging that studios and ticket-buyers are increasingly comfortable greenlighting and going to see movies where women are the story, not just the girlfriend. At the same time, it's discouraging that fewer women are being hired to direct them: Women helmed only five per cent of the year's 250 highest-grossing films. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/film/still-a-minority-new-wave-of-women-directors-is-creating-killer-art/article4354080/
