INDUSTRY NEWS

L.A. COMPLEX FILLED WITH VANCOUVER TALENT
A small industry and big geography are two factors that have made a life in Canada's movie and TV world frequently one of living out of a suitcase. Work follows a triangle defined by Vancouver in the west, Toronto in the east and Los Angeles down south.

CANUCK CALLBACK? EMMYS AGAIN NOMINATE FOX, ARNETT, 'DEGRASSI'
This year's Emmy Award nominations represent something of a Canuck callback. Yes, the Canadian contingent of honorees could be forgiven for feeling a sense of deja vu as nominations were announced on Thursday.

VANCOUVER THEATRE COMMUNITY PROUD TO TAKE ON THE PRIME MINISTER
Will the prime minister sue a group of Vancouver actors on Sunday? Practically every theatre company in the city has joined together to mount a staged reading of a satirical play --Proud -- that Toronto's Tarragon theatre chose not to present after a board member raised concerns that Stephen Harper might have a case for defamation against anyone who staged it.

CRTC ORDERS END TO CABLE LOCAL PROGRAMMING FEE
Canada's broadcast regulator plans to scrap a fund financed by cable companies and used by television stations to support local programming, a move that some say will take a toll on smaller markets.

L.A. COMPLEX: A LOVE LETTER TO LOS ANGELES - AND A WARNING
Although its premise sounds like yet another reality show, The L.A. Complex is a finely tuned character drama about the dark underbelly of the star system. Ratings for the trial-run first season were disastrous, but its producers and networks see potential, even if the show seems to be written by someone determined to dissuade any Canadian kid from moving to Hollywood.

TWO-MINUTE MEMOIR: HOW TO DITCH A DREAM
I fell and landed on the truth. Not the truth I believed in my heart or the truth I wanted to be true but the truth in a more mathematical sense. Which, in this case, happened to be the fact, the truth that I sucked worse than anything has ever sucked in the history of suckage. I was not an actor. Okay. What now?
