THE HAUNTING HOUR A SHOWCASE FOR YOUNG B.C. ACTORS
Now in its third season, the show was nominated this year for six daytime Emmys; for Balfry's cinematography, as well as makeup, costumes, directing, editing and for Toronto actor Dakota Goyo. The show airs on the U.S. Hub network and among other things has proven to be a valuable showcase for young B.C. actors.

SFU GOES EXTRATERRESTRIAL FOR HALO WEB SERIES
In early May, the Internet was abuzz with rumours that a live-action Halo production was filming at Simon Fraser University. On May 2, SFU officials simply issued a statement that something called "Sleeper" was shooting in the concrete jungle. In reality, a crew was busy up on Burnaby Mountain making the five-episode web series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.

CANADIAN TV INDUSTRY CONSOLIDATION UNLEASHES A WALL OF MONEY
The money is flowing in Canada after a recent spate of media consolidation. A report by Ottawa consultant Boon Dog Professional Services on Tuesday said Canadian broadcasters spent a combined $51 million on so-called tangible public benefits in the year to August 31, 2011, with much of that going into new indie production.

ROCKSTAR VANCOUVER STUDIO CLOSED, NEW FACILITY IN TORONTO
You know what they say: Every time a window/Vancouver studio closes, a door/Toronto studio opens. Well maybe that's not how the saying goes, but tell that to Rockstar; the company has closed up its Vancouver, Canada facility, and opened up a new facility in Oakville, Ontario for Rockstar Toronto.

ERIC MCCORMACK RETURNS TO TV IN CRIME DRAMA PERCEPTION
On Perception he portrays Dr. Daniel Pierce, a brilliant neuroscience professor with paranoid schizophrenia who is recruited by the FBI for a side job: to help solve cases that call for expertise in human behaviour and the workings of the mind. When he first read the script, the 49-year-old McCormack recalls, "I knew right away what I could do with this character. I knew the fun we could have."

ELEEN PAGE: SHE'S NOT WHAT YOU'D EXPECT, ONLY MORE SO
Seen unkindly, Ellen Page's entrance in the new Woody Allen film To Rome With Love turns her looks into a punchline. The way that Page handles this, both within the role and in discussing it, says a lot about who she is.

FOUR INTRIGUING COPYRIGHT CASES
Sure, digital copyright law makes headlines today -- Bill C-11 is currently on its way to becoming law -- but don't forget there are some old-fashioned authorship issues still causing trouble too.

AS THE CLOSET DOOR OPENS WIDER, WHERE ARE THE GAY MOVIE STARS?
Despite the recent matter-of-fact statements from the likes of Anderson Cooper, Jim Parsons and Zachary Quinto, no A-list star on the level of a Brad Pitt or Robert Downey Jr. has come out, even though statistically it seems highly improbable that no major actor is gay. Meanwhile, the rumors and lawsuits that have dogged such actors as John Travolta or Cruise may lead the public to their own conclusions.
