2012 CULTURAL AND PROJECT GRANTS TO GO BEFORE VANCOUVER COUNCIL
The City of Vancouver's 2012 cultural operating and project grant allocations go before council on Tuesday (April 17). Staff are recommending $6,840,500 operating grants for 100 organizations; $521,800 in project grants for 64 organizations; and $106,800 in additional one-time grants for 13 groups.

LUCASFILM'S ILM SETTING UP (TEMPORARY) VANCOUVER STUDIO
Industrial Light & Magic, the visual effects division of Lucasfilm, is setting up a temporary remote facility in Vancouver. The company is advertising online for an office manager and other executives as part of a plan to hire 100 staff to work in Gastown on two unspecified projects for the creators of Star Wars.

BC MOVIE THEATRES CAN NOW SERVE BOOZE
Housing Minister Rich Coleman, who's responsible for liquor laws, says the booze will be restricted to adult-only auditoriums in both movie houses and live event theatres. He says the theatres must be closed to minors during screenings because in the dark it would be difficult to enforce the rules against under-age drinking.
