VANCOUVER'S GEOGRAPHY REELS IN FILM INDUSTRY
Vancouver's backyard is sprinkled with snow-capped mountains, lush forests, sandy beaches and glittering waters. Drive a few hours outside the neighborhood and you'll discover dusty deserts, icy ridges and cozy rural towns. In all its vegetative forms, Vancouver and B.C.'s geography has been its calling card for major motion pictures and television series, making it a star on the big screen since the early 1970s.

VANCOUVER OPERA TACKLES DEFICIT
Vancouver Opera is rethinking its repertoire choices in light of the accumulated $831,000 deficit on a budget of $9.7 million it posted for its 2010-11 year, according to general director James Wright.

MONTEITH AND MILLIGAN GO FROM CAKE SHOP TO RED CARPET
In the space of a decade, Cory Monteith and Dustin Milligan have gone from working together at a Vancouver cake shop to co-starring in "Sisters & Brothers" at the Toronto International Film Festival. "We used to dream about working in Hollywood together and being able to see some success together and now we are literally at the film festival together," marvelled Milligan. "Serendipitous."

TIFF HONORS 9/11 ANNIVERSARY
Every year since 2001, the Toronto International Film Festival has programmed films that, in various ways, explore the meaning or aftermath of the tragic events, beginning in 2002 with the "11'09'01" omnibus of 11 films, each 11 minutes and 9 seconds long.
