BC FILM REPORT: PRODUCTION LEVELS DECLINED IN 2010-2011 PERIOD
A strong Canadian dollar wasn't good news for the B.C. film and television industry. Nor were boosted tax incentives in Ontario and Quebec. And as if that wasn't enough, the Winter Olympics limited the number of productions shot in B.C. in early 2010.

HOLLYWOOD JOB CRISIS
In Los Angeles, a record-setting 169 pilots were shot last year, according to Film L.A. That's good news for the industry overall but the money isn't necessarily trickling down to rank-and-file actors, writers and other professionals in Los Angeles, the heart of the industry.

ANIMATION FLEES UK TO CANADA DUE TO LACK OF TAX BREAKS
Marcus Kenyon, co-founder of Finger Industries, worked on initial designs of Mike the Knight with Hit Entertainment, but the show was made in Canada. Mr Kenyon said: "If we have to give away 65 per cent of production to Canada, we also have to give away 65 per cent of the merchandising income."

BENJAMIN BRATT JOINS CANADIAN INDIE 'LESSER BLESSED'
Benjamin Bratt is to star in Canadian writer/director Anita Doron's coming-of-age feature Lesser Blessed. Bratt was an early backer of the Canadian indie project about a First Nations teenager struggling to cope with a painful past and trying to find his place in the modern world.
