VIFF'S SEXIEST TOPIC OF THE DAY: FINANCING
I'm going to tell you a little secret of the film industry. The sexiest part of making a movie is not on set, nor is it the premiere party, or working with movie stars, and it's certainly not writing the screenplay or directing the movie. No, the sexiest part of movie making is in the wheeling, dealing, high stakes, 'horse trading' game of financing a film.http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/movie-guide/Festival+blog+Sexiest+topic+Financing/5478729/story.html
NO ONE WILL LIKE THE NEW COPYRIGHT LAWS
The definition of a good compromise is when everyone walks away from the table grumpy. By that measure, the federal government's copyright legislation, Bill C-11, does a very good job of protecting consumer rights while promoting the interests of big business. Copyright is tricky stuff, especially in the electronic age when file sharing and a plethora of available content have blurred the lines between right and wrong online. http://www.montrealgazette.com/entertainment/movie-guide/will+like+copyright+laws/5480228/story.html
VANCOUVER FILM COMMUNITY EYES CHINDA BUSINESS
When the Vancouver International Film Festival kicked off Thursday night, Mayor Gregor Robertson gave a special greeting in Mandarin to a delegation of visiting Chinese film producers. B.C. producers have been looking to China in what they view as huge potential for co-productions, funding and distribution, among other cooperations.http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/entertainment/2011-10/01/c_131171313.htm
NO MENTION OF ARTS IN BC JOBS PLAN
Premier Christy Clark unveiled her B.C. Jobs Plan. The plan identifies eight sectors "with the greatest promise for job growth". But the NDP's culture critic Spencer Chandra Herbert says he's dismayed that the arts get no mention in the plan.http://straight.com/article-470371/vancouver/no-mention-arts-bc-jobs-plan
