CANADIAN SCREEN CO-PRODUCTIONS COSTING JOBS AT HOME
The cops on Rookie Blue and the medics on Combat Hospital are working twice as hard for the Canadian economy as those dissipated aristocrats on The Borgias. That is the message contained in a new report about the Canadian film and television industry released by the performers and screenwriters unions Tuesday.

TALENT DRAIN HITS NANAIMO AS FILM WORKERS LEAVE TOWN
The Nanaimo region is experiencing a film trade drain as hundreds of people are lured to the Lower Mainland by the promise of work. The mid-Island has been losing experienced lighting engineers, special-effects experts and electricians to the Lower Mainland for nearly two decades because of a shortage in locally produced TV shows and films.

FRINGE FILM CREW BUSY 'BLASTING' DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER
Downtown Vancouver is being blasted with gunfire and fireballs this week during filming of an upcoming episode for TV series Fringe. The hit sci-fi program is just one in a number of productions underway throughout Metro Vancouver at the moment.

BREAST FEEDING MOM DISCRIMINATED AT BARD? NOW OFFERED FREE TICKETS
Bard on the Beach artistic director Christopher Gaze is offering Leanne Scorah a pair of tickets to an evening show for her and her husband--if Scorah can find a babysitter. Scorah claimed she was discriminated against when she was refused admittance to a Saturday matinee performance of As You Like It for wanting to bring in her nursing eight-week-old infant.

STUDIO FEARS LOCAL MOVIE INDUSTRY WILL HURT FROM HST VOTE
The defeat of the Harmonized Sales Tax is bad news for the local film industry.  It may force big movie-makers to head east to Ontario, which is keeping its HST. President of North Shore Studios Peter Leitch says jobs may be lost as the tax is phased out over the next year and a half.
