VANCOUVER'S NEIGHBOURHOOD VIDEO STORES PUSHED TO THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION
Paul Armstrong, a film, television and theatre producer and co-founder of The Celluloid Social Club, describes stores like Videomatica as his "film school," allowing him to gain a broad overview of classic films that he says is essential when working in film. He also worries that with so many video stores closing, there'll be a collective narrowing of film knowledge and fewer interesting films getting made. http://www.vancourier.com/entertainment/movie-guide/Fade+black/4924665/story.html
A RETURN TO PST-GST WOULD BE A MISTAKE SAYS PETER LEITCH OF MPPIA
Vancouver is Hollywood North -and the HST is keeping us on the moviemaking map. Going back to the 12-percent PST-GST double tax would drive up production costs -killing film production opportunities and sending jobs to Ontario and Hollywood.http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/movie-guide/return+would+mistake/4917276/story.html
BC'S LEO AWARDS BOOST FROM US INDUSTRY
The profile of the U.S. film industry looms over B.C.'s annual Leo awards, meant to celebrate the homegrown creative talents in film and TV. U.S.-generated work counts as a billion-dollar industry here while the local players, many of them trained on those big U.S. shows, craft smaller, often no-budget creative works.http://www.theprovince.com/entertainment/movie-guide/Local+awards+boost+from+industry/4917215/story.html

FANS DETERMINED TO SAVE ENDGAME
It's an old story: A TV show begins, stalls in the ratings, is cancelled and the fans try to save it. A TV rule of thumb is that the most unusual, ambitious and uncompromising dramatic series often attract the most ardent followers, even if the very same series is lost on a more mainstream audience.http://www.montrealgazette.com/entertainment/Fans+determined+save+Endgame/4926377/story.html
