VETERAN VANCOUVER ACTOR BRUSHES OFF STROKE
Jay Brazeau appreciates all the support he has received after he suffered a "tiny" stroke May 12 during an Arts Club preview for the musical version of John Waters's Hairspray. But the 57-year-old actor sounds a bit sheepish about all the hubbub over his stroke, because he feels "terrific."

CANADIAN HORROR FILM SPLICE WINS GOLDEN BOX OFFICE AWARD
Splice, the sci-fi horror film starring Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody, won the Golden Box Office award on Thursday for being the highest-grossing Canadian film of 2010. The prize was awarded to Doug Taylor and his co-writer Vincenzo Natali, who also directed the picture.

JEFF CONAWAY, WHO STARRED IN 'TAXI' AND 'GREASE' DIES AT 60
The actor was taken off life support Thursday and died Friday morning at Encino Tarzana Medical Center, according to one of his managers, Kathryn Boole. He was taken there unconscious on May 11 and placed in a medically induced coma.

WHAT IT TAKES TO MORPH FROM TV SERIES TO FILM
Two examples arrived this week on Blu-ray: Wild Wild West (1999) and Maverick (1994). The second performed better at the box office than the first, but, in the spirit of contrariness, here's a defence for director Barry Sonnenfeld's version of what, on TV from 1965 to 1969, was called The Wild, Wild West.

CANADIANS ON TV SHOPPING SPREE
It was a new-look Canadian TV contingent that arrived in Los Angeles for the May Screenings and, thanks to a fresh crop of owners with deep pockets, the main networks were buying with renewed vigor. But they're also buying differently. Following a couple of years of rapid-fire change in the TV biz in the Great White North, the three main webs -- CTV, Global and the smaller City-TV -- are now all owned by distributors.
