THE HOBBIT FINALLY HOBBLES INTO PRODUCTION IN NEW ZEALAND
Filming began on Monday on the long-awaited "Hobbit" movies, ending years of delay due to funding problems and a labor dispute which nearly saw the project shifted out of New Zealand.

CANCELLED NEW BRUNSWICK FILM TAX CREDIT COULD IMPACT NOVA SCOTIA
The president of the New Brunswick Film Producers Association is predicting many filmmakers will relocate to Nova Scotia to take advantage of a tax credit that knocks 50 to 60 per cent off labour costs.

WGC CALLS FOR MORE CANADIAN MAJORITY CO-PRODUCTIONS
The federal government should strengthen the domestic film and television production industry by ensuring that, in at least half of all international coproductions with Canadians, Canadians play a majority role, the Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) says.

CHRISTY CLARK ADDS 415 MILLION TO GAMBLING GRANTS, BUT ELIGIBILITY REMAINS UNCHANGED
At a news conference today held at West Side Family Place in Point Grey, Christy Clark made good on her campaign promise to add $15 million to community gambling grants. But Clark confirmed that only groups currently eligible for the grants would be benefiting from the boost.

ADRIEN BRODY IS WRECKED IN B.C.
Canadian director Michael Greenspan had lunch with the Oscar-winning actor in Santa Monica several months before filming, to convince Brody to make the low budget story of a man who wakes up in a wrecked car in the woods with no idea how he got there. The movie, Greenspan's first feature, opens in theatres this Friday.

APTN: THE NATIVE NETWORK THAT'S GETTING A NATION'S ATTENTION

Stratford Shakespeare Festival regulars visiting New York right now may spot a familiar name up on a Broadway marquee: Nikki M. James.
Two and a half years after playing a feline Cleopatra to Christopher Plummer's Caesar - and a year and a half after she shockingly pulled out of acting opposite Plummer again in The Tempest - James has popped up as a most unusual romantic lead in The Book of Mormon, the hotly anticipated new musical by the creators of South Park.
