B.C. ADDS 18K JOBS IN DECEMBER AS END OF STRIKES REVIVES FILM SECTOR
The province added 17,700 jobs to the economy in December. The province also saw notable gains in health care (+12,300 jobs), while business and support services took a dip (-8,700 jobs). Meantime, the province’s unemployment rate expanded by 0.3 percentage points to 5.6 per cent as more people entered the workforce.

According to a new report from Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, titled Inclusion in the Director’s Chair, only 12.1% of 2023’s top films were directed by
women. The report also looked at the top-grossing fictional films from 2007 to 2023 and found that only 6% of the top-grossing films in that time frame were directed by women.
