THEATRES NEED MORE PLUS-SIZED BLACK ACTORS, SAYS BROADWAY AND WEST END STAR
A professional career in theatre was not always on the cards for Marisha Wallace. The Broadway and West End star, who was born and raised on a pig farm in North Carolina, rarely saw people that looked like her on stage. Wallace is on a singular mission to call out the lack of plus-sized black actors on stage and to inspire young girls just like her. https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2022/apr/30/marisha-wallace-plus-sized-actors-theatre
TIPS FOR SELF-SUBMITTING
The actor’s hustle is a lifelong endeavor. The more you submit yourself, the better you’ll get at sorting through legitimate projects that are worth your time, and the ones that are better passed over. As long as you’re keeping things honest and professional with your agent and management, there’s no reason you should stop self-submitting. https://www.castingnetworks.com/news/5-tips-for-self-submitting/
THINGS YOU NEED TO DO AFTER FILM SCHOOL, ACCORDING TO A CAREER COACH
Even if you are lucky enough to nab an agent or manager, you, the artist, must still be the primary driver of your career. It’s your job to provide direction and partner with your representatives to realize your vision. At the end of the day, only you know what is in your creative heart. https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/what-to-do-after-film-school-75026/
HACKS FOR NAILING CO-STAR ROLES FROM VETERAN ACTOR ADRIAN MARTINEZ
Martinez’s sentiment harks back to a saying we’re taught as youngsters: “be yourself.” It is both the easiest and hardest part to play. CASTING DIRECTOR WORKSHOP WITH KRIZ WOZ
May 14 (9am-5pm) and May 15 (10am-3pm)
Online via Zoom
Self Tapes, Zoom auditions and the occasional in-person callback are the new norm. One of the best ways to build an in person relationship with casting is to do casting director workshops where they can see your work live, see how you take re-directs, and get a sense of who you are as a person. It’s harder for casting to trust someone just from a self tape. Casting director workshops gives the actor an edge in The New Casting Environment that is even more competitive than before. https://actorvanstudios.com/product/the-casting-director-workshop-with-kris-from-kk-casting-may-2022/
